Evolution in Religion is based on the Westcott Lecture under the Teape Foundation which Professor Zaehner delivered at St. Stephen's College, Delhi, in 1969. lt is a comparative study of Teilhard de Chardin and Sri Aurobindo each of whom approaches his religion, Catholicism in the one case and Hinduism in the other, from the point of view of evolution. Interpreting the Fall and the Incarnation in similar terms Professor Zaehner takes up Teilhard's leading idea, the 'spiritualization of matter', and applies it to the biblical narrative, while developing his theme in accordance with Hindu ideas as expounded by Aurobindo.
