The Mexican National Museum of Anthropology in Chapultepec Park, opened in 1964, embodies entirely new conceptions of museum design. This book (written by a director of the museum and by two of the curators) follows the plan of the museum. After the opening chapter by Dr Bernal, who surveys the history of the museum, Roman Pina-Chan describes the archaeological section of the building. The halls in the ethnographical section present the indigenous peoples of Mexico as they have survived to this day: their dwellings, costume, languages, customs, occupations and environment. The text is lavishly accompanied by illustrations of the museum's varied riches.
