This readable and handy book on the Clans and Tartans of Scotland, giving a short account of many widespread families both highland and lowland provides a compact guide for those who wish to learn quickly something of the history and origins of their clan or Name. I mention lowland since it is not always realised that the great lowland Names defended the rights of their members, until after the Union of the Crowns, in much the same way as did the highland Clans until the '45. To-day, this feeling of brotherhood is maintained and kept alive through the Standing Council of Scottish Chiefs and the various Clan Societies.
